Job Summary
The nurse provides clinical and administrative support for the operation of a comprehensive, on-site occupational health service for research and development operations. This includes both clinical nursing and administrative support of occupational health programs. The nurse is part of the emergency response team for both biological and chemical laboratories. The nurse will also be involved in employee wellness programs. The nurse may be responsible for tracking, compiling, and reporting on examination and testing data, injury and treatment, and other information necessary for the operation of occupational health programs.
The position is located at our West Jefferson, Ohio facility.
Responsibilities
Maintains equipment, supplies, medical records, and logs in an accurate, organized, and functional manner.
Assists in scheduling and tracking required occupational medical evaluations, return-to-work examinations, and follow-up visits for local and global operations.
Involved in employee wellness programs influenza clinics, biometric screenings, etc.
Obtains specimens (blood, urine), conduct tests (hearing, vision, lung function, respirator fit tests, etc.) and administers immunizations (hepatitis A/B, tetanus, etc.) as required, in compliance with current standard practices.
Effectively assesses occupational injuries and illnesses, providing prompt and clinically accurate medical treatment for Battelle staff members.
Provides emergency response, acute care (first aid) and counseling for staff members on health concerns and refers them to the appropriate resources as necessary.
Assists with other administrative tasks such as processing bills, ordering supplies, and maintaining multiuser databases.
Contributes to the review of existing guidelines and the formulation of new medical procedures and physician's standing orders.
Engages in self-development activities for ongoing nursing education units as required by the State Nurse Licensing Bureau and certification by the American Board of Occupational Health Nurses. Engages in educational activities to acquire new skills and update current knowledge of nursing to provide a high quality of occupational health nursing.
Key Qualifications
Requires an Associates degree (or higher) in nursing. Two years of nursing experience in employee heath, occupational health, emergency medicine, urgent care, case management, critical care or a related area is required.
Licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Ohio is required.
Must be capable of using respiratory protection and protective clothing in an emergency response capacity.
Ability to work in complex research setting with personnel from diverse disciplines, along with superior organization and clinical management skills are required.
Ability to learn potential hazards of biological and chemical agents and provide medical support
Ability to travel to attend required training up to two weeks per year
Willingness to support work outside normal business hours several times per year
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively and build relationships is required.
Certification in CPR, first aid, and advanced airway support is required or must be obtained upon hire.
Basic skills in clinical nursing, immunizations and routine occupational medical testing preferred.
