LPN Jobs in Fresno, CA
A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), also known as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in some states, plays a critical role in the nursing industry by providing basic medical and nursing care under the supervision of Registered Nurses (RNs) and doctors. LPNs monitor the health of patients by observing and recording symptoms and vital signs, administer basic nursing care, including changing bandages and inserting catheters, provide comfort to patients by helping with daily activities such as bathing and dressing, and give medications and injections as prescribed by doctors. To succeed in this role, LPNs should have strong interpersonal skills, physical stamina, and attention to detail. They should also be compassionate, patient, and have good problem-solving skills.
Before becoming an LPN, individuals often work in roles such as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or a Home Health Aide (HHA) to gain experience in the healthcare field. These roles involve providing basic patient care and assistance with daily activities, which helps develop the essential skills needed to be successful as an LPN. To become an LPN, one must complete an approved educational program, which usually takes about one year to complete, and pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) to get licensed. LPNs may also choose to gain additional certifications in specialized areas such as gerontology, IV therapy, or pharmacology to enhance their skills and job opportunities.
